The storyline is somewhat convoluted, with characters’ motivations and backstories not being fully explored. However, the game’s narrative is supplemented by cutscenes and in-game dialogue, which provide some insight into the characters’ relationships and goals.
The game takes place in the Mortal Kombat universe, but with a twist. Players take on the roles of two new characters, Kuai Liang (also known as Sub-Zero) and Ying, as they embark on a quest to stop the evil sorcerer, Shang Tsung, from taking over the Mortal Kombat tournament. Along the way, they encounter various characters from the Mortal Kombat roster, including Scorpion, Raiden, and Kitana.
One of the most notable features of the game is its emphasis on exploration and platforming. Players must navigate through treacherous terrain, avoiding obstacles and enemies as they make their way through the levels. The platforming sections can be challenging, but they add a welcome layer of depth to the gameplay.
