Emily stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. “I’m not throwing anything away,” she said. “I’m gaining something, something that I never knew I was missing.”

Emily’s heart soared at his words. She felt the same way, but she was scared. Scared of what their families would do, scared of what the town would say.

They talked for hours, laughing and joking like they used to when they were kids. But as the sun dipped below the horizon, Emily realized that they were no longer kids. They were adults, with feelings and desires that they couldn’t ignore.

As they walked out of the park, Alex turned to her and said, “I’ve missed you, Em.”

“You’re throwing away your future,” Emily’s mother said, her voice shrill with anger. “You’re throwing away everything we’ve worked for.” She felt the same way, but she was scared

One night, as they sat on the beach watching the stars, Alex turned to Emily and said, “I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I care about you, and I want to be with you.”
