But if you looked closely at the screen’s black mirror—just before midnight—you could sometimes see two silhouettes: one winged, one human, walking together through a garden of dead roses. Kael’s chair scraped the floor

Her hand reached through the screen. Fingers cold as marble closed around his wrist. The last thing Kael saw was his own terrified reflection in her golden eyes—and behind her, the gates of the Great Tomb of Nazarick swinging open.
