In response to this call, the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments commissioned a new edition of the Graduale. The result was the Graduale Triennium, published in 1978, which contained a selection of chants for the three-year liturgical cycle. However, this publication was not widely adopted, and a new, more comprehensive Graduale was needed.
