The movie begins with Cody traveling to the Big Z competition, where he meets his idol, Big Z (voiced by Jeff Bridges). However, things take a dramatic turn when Cody discovers that Big Z has died in a surfing accident. Cody decides to participate in the competition in honor of Big Z and, along the way, meets a group of surfers who become his friends.
