After graduation, they decide to marry. But both families are fiercely traditional and deeply prejudiced against the other culture. Krish’s mother, Kavita (Amrita Singh), is a bitter, emotionally wounded woman who hates the idea of a South Indian daughter-in-law. Ananya’s father (Shiv Subrahmanyam) is orthodox and cold, while her mother (Revathy) is caring but traditional.

To win their parents’ approval, Krish and Ananya decide to live with each other’s families. First, they go to Krish’s home in Delhi. Ananya tries hard to fit in—learning Punjabi, cooking, and being friendly—but Kavita’s hostility grows. A huge fight erupts when Kavita accuses Ananya of trapping Krish for his money.

They then move to Chennai to convince Ananya’s parents. Krish faces rejection, cultural shock, and humiliation. Ananya’s father refuses to even meet him. The strain becomes too much: Ananya breaks down, and Krish, feeling defeated, nearly gives up. They separate temporarily.
